Description

NGC 6992, a knotted complex of emission and reflection nebulae within the much larger complex known as the Eastern Veil Nebula (or Caldwell 33). These filaments are actually shockwave fronts expanding outward from a supernova explosion that occurred some 8000 years ago, resulting in the "Cygnus Loop" which is approximately 3 degrees across in the constellation of Cygnus. NGC 6992 lies at a distance of 1500 light years.
