Description

Update 21/05/2018: Added luminance data from my ASI1600MM-C camera to the DSLR color data from 2017. Sharpness is greatly improved with the new camera!

Total exposure is:

- 85 minutes luminance (ASI1600MM) from Bortle 9.

- 27 minutes color (DSLR) from Bortle 7.

Messier 3 is a bright globular cluster in the constellation Canes Venatici, made up of about 0.5 million stars and located outside of the galactic plane.

Despite the fact that globular clusters only contain one kind of object (stars), obtaining good detail in the core and extended outer areas is challenging.

This is one of my first autoguided photographs, obtained out in the field.

I definitely noticed how the stars are tighter now, and mainly focused on star definition and color during post-processing.

While framing M3, I decided to include the small spiral galaxy NGC 5263 near the top.

Best viewed at full size.
