Description

Messier 97 - Owl Nebula

The Owl Nebula is a planetary nebula located approximately 2,030 light years and is approximately 8000 years old. It is located in the constellation of Ursa Major.

One of the early hand drawn illustrations in 1848 by the 3rd Earl of Rosse, William Parsons, resembled an owl's head. It has been known as the Owl Nebula ever since.
