Description

I discovered this object by chance while browsing SkytechX.

Rarely imaged, I searched astrobin and found no more than six images
of it (and only 1 in wide field). This huge and diffuse nebula barely fit in a 135mm frame.

----------------------------------

The nature of this huge filament has long been debated. Its position,
in galactic coordinates apparently coincident with the edges of Vela ,
led some scientists to believe that it could be the northern wall
of the large superbubble that constitutes the body of that nebula,
also due to its emissions in Hα ; Other scientists, however,
note that these filaments are very far from the nebula's point of origin,
and the same radial velocity appears different: this scenario has led
scholars to hypothesize that it may be a cloud separate from the Vela Nebula
and with a different movement, facing towards us.
