Messier 7 / NGC 6475 is an open cluster of stars located in the constellation of Scorpius. It is known since Antiquity because described by the Greco-Roman astronomer Ptolemy in 130 AD, hence its common name of Ptolemy Cluster. After having observed it, Charles Messier inscribed it in his catalog in 1764.

This open cluster is located at about 978 light-years and is approaching our solar system. Its apparent magnitude is 3.3 and its diameter is 80 minutes of arc (about 20 light-years), for an age of 220 million years.

On my picture, you can clearly see Barnard Dark Nebula B287 just to the right of the cluster and B283 (in part), top left.

Messier 7 / NGC 6475 est un amas ouvert situé dans la constellation du Scorpion. Il est connu depuis l'Antiquité car décrit par l'astronome gréco-romain Ptolémée en 130 ap JC, d'où son appellation commune d'Amas Ptolémée. Après l'avoir observé, Charles Messier l'inscrit dans son catalogue en 1764.

Cet amas ouvert est situé à environ 978 années-lumière et se rapprocherait de notre système solaire. Sa magnitude apparente est de 3,3 et son diamètre de 80 minutes d'arc (environ 20 années-lumière), pour un âge de 220 millions d'années.

Sur mon image, on peut voir nettement Barnard Dark Nebula B287 juste à droite de l'amas et B283 (en partie), en haut à gauche.

If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
