Description

I decided to image this object because I've not imaged it before and I needed an image Of M79 to

add to my on going project of imaging all of the Messier objects. M79 is a difficult object to image

for me at least. In fact I consider all globular clusters a challenge. However M79 is a relatively

dim object with a listed 7.8 visual magnitude. To compare, M13 the great globular cluster in

Hercules has a listed 5.7 magnitude. Through a small scope M79 looks like a fuzzy patch of light.

In a small scope not many stars can be resolved in the outer regions of the cluster. Whereas with

M13 hundreds of stars can be resolved in the outer regions as you add magnification. I processed my image of M79 five or six times and I was not pleased with any of the images.

I was stretching the data in Deep Sky Stacker and also with different curves in the post processing trying to bring out more detail/stars. However this was only making the cluster

look un-natural and funky. It finally dawned on me that it would be better to just accept the

image as it came out of the camera with this object and data. I just did a little processing to clean up

the light gradients and to improve the background. I also did a little processing just to

brighten the stars slightly. Obviously it's not a spectacular image but it does look like M79.

Please enjoy.
