Description

Discovered in 1702 by Gottfried Kirch in the constellation Serpens, Messier 5 is a 13 billion-year old Globular Star Cluster spanning a colossal 165-light-years in diameter. It contains as many as 500,000 stars and is about 25 thousand light years away from us.
