Description

This is the first in a series of nightscape images taken during a trip to Corolla, North Carolina.  The skies from Corolla are Bortle 4, the Moon was near new, and the dunes blocked the light pollution from the beach houses allowing great views of the Milky Way from the beach.  These images are taken looking towards the Southwest where the core of the Milky way was visible hanging over the beach access stairs.

Imaged using a Nikon D5300 (full spectrum modified), IDAS HEUIB-II (H-α Enhanced UV IR Blocking) filter, and 14 mm Rokinon lens at F2.8. Exposures were 20 seconds at ISO-3200.

Combined 11 subs using Sequator (composition = align stars/freeze ground, auto brightness=ON, HDR=ON, LP reduction = ON/uneven (intelligently agressive=OFF), enhance starlight=ON).  Removed light pollution/sky gradients using Automatic Background Extraction (ABE) process in Pixinsight.  HDR process applied in PixInsight.
