Description

This image captures a series of objects located in the constellation of Gemini at a declination of +23 degrees.

Surprisingly, the main object in this field of view, IC 444, is not the brightest. That would be GN 06.16.4, the blue reflection nebula on the right surrounding the 7th magnitude star 12 Gem. This object lies 6000 light years away. The nebula spans 6 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 11 light years.

IC 444 is the white reflection nebula on the left side of the image. Appearing to cut through the reflection nebula is the dark nebula, Dobashi 4565.

I could not find identification for the faint red HII band that runs vertically between these two objects.
