Description

The sombrero galaxy is a distinctive sight the spring sky. This is my first attempt at imaging it. About 30 million light years away, so hard to see much detail on it other than the distinctive dust lane. It was only about 37 degrees above horizon, and seeing was below average, so it was hard to get a clear image on the two nights I captured data on it.This is my best RGB image in terms of color with my monochrome camera so far. I hope to continue to figure out how to process these images so that the colors can be better captured. I am still amazed that you can capture such distant galaxies with a small telescope. I captured first night with gains set to 200, with 120 sec subs, second night with more moon (4-18) at only gain of 139, but with 300 sec exposures. Each night some frames were lost due to airplanes or poor guiding. Total integration time 2 hours.
