Description

Well I have some good news to report. I recently saw on sale a second hand 5.1 inch refractor, an Altair Astro 130 EDT triplet. It was a major decision to make and I am never sure about whether I am buying the right scope or not, but I decided to go for it. My aim is that it will replace my old 8" reflector, which I struggle with, for deep space stuff, and use the reflector instead for some hoped for lunar work in the coming months, using a 5X Barlow. Anyway, I used a 0.8 reducer with this new scope making it run at f/5.53, instead of the native f/7, and whilst there are some teething troubles and some balance issues, I am pleased with this first image, especially as it was only an hour and a half's worth of imaging time. So, 30 subs at 3 minutes long each, plus 20 subs at 20s each, for the core. It was also taken with a 64% illuminated moon nearby, and the duo filter whilst being narrowband, is not that 'narrow.' Thanks everyone...
