Description

This is my first shot of a globular cluster. I had initially dismissed these as uninteresting targets and wondered why Messier had cataloged so many of them. However, seeing 'Great' in the name of M13 convinced me to take look while at a dark campsite near Crater Lake, Oregon. My first shot was 70mm and I was shocked to see what appeared to be a little brown beetle several times larger than any other star in the middle of my shot. Zooming in to 300mm revealed that is indeed a cluster of stars and not an insect, much to my disappointment. I still found the structure quite interesting and may try again later with more focal length.

16 8 second subs at f/8 ISO 6400, stacked in siril, curves & sharpening in Photoshop.
