Description

NGC 4565; the Needle Galaxy

NGC 4565 also known as the Needle Galaxy is an edge-on spiral galaxy about 40 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. This image shows it being almost surrounded by hundreds of tiny background galaxies.

Equipment used:

STXL 6303 camera/ FW8G/ AO-X and AT 16RCT telescope with AP 27 TVPH reducer. Astrodon Gen 2 LRGB filter set. AP 1200 mount.

Exposure Times:

Lum = 52 X 10 min, R = 30 X 5 min, G = 36 X 5 min, B = 34 X 5 min. 17 hrs total.

Frames acquired with MaxIm DL 6, calibrated and combined in CCD Stack2. Processed with PixInsight 1.8.
