Description

This is the first in a series of nightscape images taken during a camping trip to Assateague Island State Park in Maryland. The state park is located on on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean with the campsites just over the sand dunes. The skies are Bortle ~4 and make for some fantastic skywatching and astrophotography. The moon was up during this trip so not ideal conditions for deep sky imaging, but I made the best of it with some nightscapes with the seashore nicely illuminated by the moon. This first image in the series was taken from the campsite side of the dune looking across the beach access path towards the ocean facing approximately North-East. The Heart Nebula and Soul Nebula are faintly visible in Cassiopeia and M31 can just be seen to right. Rising over the dune at the bottom of the image is a faint California Nebula.

Imaged using a Nikon D5300 (full spectrum modified), IDAS HEUIB-II (H-α Enhanced UV IR Blocking) filter, and 14 mm Rokinon lens at F2.8. Exposures were 20 seconds at ISO-1600. Noise reduction and sharpening using DeNoise AI.

Combined 36 subs using Sequator (composition = align stars/freeze ground, auto brightness=ON, HDR=ON, LP reduction = ON/uneven (intelligently agressive=OFF), enhance starlight=ON).
