Description

This object is a very faint planetary nebula located in the constellation of Serpens at a declination of +6 degrees. It is also known as RCW 181 and PN G038.7+01.9. The object is named after the two observatories (Yerkes and McDonald) which discovered it in 1954.

This is a large PN, with an apparent diameter of 5′. HII dominates the signal - there is very little OIII. The central star looks visible to me but I could not confirm that it is in fact the progenitor star. Not much is written about this PN and I could not determine its distance from us.
