Description

Perhaps the richest area of the southern Summer sky (as seen from the northern hemisphere), this field of view includes many recognizable nebulae such as the Dark Horse, Rho Ophiuchi, the Blue Horsehead, the Lagoon, the Trifid, the Omega (or Swan), the Eagle, and much more. The Sagittarius star cloud is clearly seen, as well as a portion of the galaxy core, aka "the dark river". This image was captured from Cherry Springs Dark Sky Park in northern Pennsylvania, which is a Bortle 2 location. Equipment used: Nikon D750, Nikkor 50mm lens, and an AstroTrac. 12 x 5 minute exposures shot at f/4 & ISO 1600.
