Description

Here is my version of M82, one of the first DSO objects I imaged after the moon and one of my favourite night sky objects, it was a single 10 min sub using my Skymax 127, so did not publish as I was working on M81.

Still trying to figure how to use the combinations of Ha, L and RGB. I am finding that the Lum I obtain is way too bright and washing out colour but more importantly detail which I was not expecting. I am using the Lum channel sparingly with a very low opacity, which makes me think I may not need huge amounts of Lum (probably dependent on target. Still learning What I did figure out was that I can use the Ha as Lum more effectively in this case and chose to reduce the amount of red captured as I knew I was going to blend it with the Ha. It played a big role in creating masks too.

The objective here was to highlight the huge Ha regions shooting out from the galaxy and capture some of the detail, wasn't sure this was possible with a 6" scope but am very happy with this outcome. I find that using Topaz denoise often creates unwanted artefacts, so had opted to not use this to maintain some structural fidelity. Incredible galaxy, this one!

Hope you like this as much as I do.
