Description

This is my old rig, made by my self back in the mid-nineties.

Back then I was working as a Industrial mechanic and machinist, which was my initial education after junior high school.

The optics and the 12V motors was purchased from abroad, and the tube is a kind of "Sonotube" which I got for free from a local factory, but all the mechanical parts was made by my self.

I dit not use traditional clutches, but made a kind of slip clutch which allowed me to rotate the telescope in any direction, without releasing any clutches.

The main gears had adjustable tension for grip around the polar and the declination shafts.

The main scope was equipped with a 250mm f4,8 parabolic mirror, and the manually guiding scope had 100mm f8 spherical mirror.

The 100mm mirror I bought in the late seventies for my first "DIY" telescope.

I had to choose if i should re-aluminize the optics and rebuild the mechanical parts, but I realized that I never would achieve the level of photographic accuracy I desired.

I followed my dream and dismantled the reflector and purchased a refractor.

May it "rest in pieces"😉
