Description

This rarely imaged object, also known as PN G167.0–00.9, is a planetary nebula located 5200 light years away in the constellation of Auriga at a declination of +39 degrees. This PN spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 1.5 light years.

I don't see a central progenitor star in this PN, which is unusual, and I don't see any real structure in the nebula. The nebula appears as soft white because the Ha and OIII signals were similar in their weak strength.

A recent paper confirmed that Abell 8 is a member of the Bica 6 open star cluster of over 100 stars. The Bica 6 cluster is almost wholly contained within this image and is centered above and right of Abell 8. Few PNs have been confirmed as members of a star cluster.
