Description

Summer is finally here! This is an high-res mosaic (actually 34 megapixel) of the Milky Way. I shot it from the heart of the Parco delle Madonie (Sicily, Italy). There was a beautiful sky that night.

You can see a lot of interesting deep sky objects: Trifid Nebula (M20), M21, M22, M23, M24, M25, M26, Omega Nebula (M17), Eagle Nebula (M16), NGC6645, B312, B317, B102 and many many more...

I used a Canon EOS 60D on a guided Skywatcher HEQ5 and a Canon 50mm f1.8 closed to f3.5. The setup was guided with a QHY5L-II and a common 60mm guidescope. The full resolution image is 6874x4980. The camera is fully unmodded (bayered, with low pass filter and with the original ir-cut).

The image is a sum of 2 panels. Each one is an uncalibrated (yes, I became lazy) 8x180'' exposure but I really like the result.
