Description

I had been anticipating Jupiter's opposition this year in order to achieve some kind of time lapse, but the weather was against me until early May. Under the light of a near-full Moon I still managed to get some imaging done in the only clear night of Spring.

.Gif consists of 116 frames, each captures using a 60-second video at ~28fps and about 70 Gain on Firecapture. A 60-second pause was added between each video capture as well, meaning I was able to capture about 4 hours of movement. A meridian flip 1.5 hours into capture did slow me down and cost me about 4 captures of data, which can be seen as the slight jerk of Jupiter tilting counter clockwise as the GRS slides into view. I played with it for quite a while in Photoshop but was unable to completely fix the rotation.

This was also a first experiment using Firecapture to simultaneously guide and image using a single camera. This is a feature that was unknown to me, but I was glad to have it. I still had to make some adjustments periodically, but for the most part the planet stayed pretty well in view.
