Description

This is a small crop from a much larger 3 panel panorama which can be seen here: http://www.astrobin.com/301835/

The project started in Sept 2014, imaged again in 2015 July to October and again in 2016 July to Aug. It has taken a long time to process as it was my first mosaic and I was still learning. This area is mostly from the middle panel of the mosaic and is built up from Ha, OIII, SII, Red, Green & Blue filtered data totalling 55 hrs just for this panel.

This crop is my favourite part and shows a lot of different objects and features, from very complex multilayered dust, glowing gas and some very interesting tadpole looking features which are bok globules, areas where new stars may be born, you need to zoom in to the centre of the image to see those better. Some of the dust forms very intricate shapes and strands and my processing of this image is biased to retaining as much detail in the dust as I could. Version two has better detail in the dust areas.

The basic colour pallet is based on the initial Pixelmath:

R = (ha*0.5)+(sii*0.5)

G = (oiii*0.85)+(ha*0.15)

B = (oiii*1)

But was then adapted to personal taste during processing. The RGB data was only used for the stars.

There are a variety of sub exposures and bin settings used, so I have averaged out the exposure lengths in the technical card.
