Description

This is my first attempt to capture the faint outer halo of the ring nebula M57 and a background spiral galaxy IC 1296. Meade SN-10 + Atik460ex. I have had a collimation problem with this scope so StarTools was used to repair the star shape. The FOV is not quite right for this combination. The capture data are:

Ha(5nm): 10 min x 38

Oiii(5nm): 10 min x 19

Sii(5nm): 10 min x 18

All with Astrodon 5nm filters.

HST25%+Natural Color75%

The outer halo (mostly Ha) is very faint and nearly spherical. In contrast, the inner halo has a irregular shape. For some reasons, in this image, the inner halo shows lots of Oiii (i.e. blue-green in color). In other people's images, the inner halo seem to show in red (Ha).
