Description

This is NGC6503, as spiral galaxy in Draco.

I imaged this over 4 nights at Golden State Star Party in June, 2017. Holding a star party during the summer solstice gives minimal dark sky imaging time. I selected this target because it transited between midnight and 1am, giving it the most time possible while positioned favorably. Also, it frames well with the equipment that I took to the star party. Finally, it is not a commonly imaged object, even though I find it to be pretty photogenic.

This image was brutal to process due to the presence of two bright stars, SAO 8937 and SAO 8942. Both of these stars were severely saturated giving halos and diffraction effects with a radius of over 200 pixels in the raw data. I was unable to completely repair the damage, and there are visible areas around these stars where I've tried to clean things up. I will probably come back to this image more than once, since it presents a good opportunity for me to work on my star processing skills.
