This object is a spiral galaxy located about 40 million light-years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. It is a galaxy that displays some barred features in its core and has tightly-wound arms. It is highly inclined to our line of sight, almost edge-on, at an angle of 74°. Despite the high angle, it is easy to see the dark dust lanes, the yellowish core, and the bluish spiral arms. M98 is unusual in that it is a rare blue-shifted galaxy, which means it is actually headed toward us. This is likely due to gravitational effects on M98 by other nearby galaxies.
