Description

This object is an elliptical galaxy located in the southern constellation of Virgo. It is larger than our Milky Way and contains more than 200 billion stars.  The 9.3 magnitude galaxy is 10 arc-minutes wide and 160,000 light years in diameter.

The galaxy appears yellowish, indicating that its stars are mostly older.  Except for the companion seen at upper left, the galaxy is featureless.
