Description

M14 is a mag 5.7 globular cluster located 30,000 light years away in the constellation of Ophiuchus at a declination of -3 degrees.  It is a spans 13 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 110 light years.

The core is a bit elongated in shape, presumably due to gravitational effects from the core of our galaxy. The cluster contains about 150,000 stars.
