Description

M25 is an open cluster located 2200 light years away in the constellation of Sagittarius at a declination of -19 degrees.  It is a magnitude 4.6 cluster which spans 30 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 20 light years.

This object is a bright, gorgeous open star cluster. It appears similar to the size of the full moon in the sky and is one of the Messier objects that is visible to the naked eye under dark skies. The cluster contains 80 stars and is a brilliant example of star color, with distinct blue, orange and white stars prominent in the field. The background is dense with stars from the core section of the Milky Way.
