Description

M30 is a globular cluster located 23000 light years away in the constellation of Capricornus at a declination of -23 degrees.  It is a magnitude 7 cluster which spans 11 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 75 light years.

This object is unusual because the width of the cluster is so much larger than the width of the cluster core itself. A large number of reddish giant stars are contained in the cluster. The cluster has a total of 160,000 stars.
