Description

NGC 891 is an edge-on spiral galaxy in the constellation Andromeda. I've always been fascinated by the detail in the obscuring dust lane in this galaxy. Here's a picture that shows it even better. Reminds me of the dark dust that can be seen crossing our own Milky Way.

Looks much better large on a dark background!

Imaging FL: 1480mm

Imaging camera: SBIG ST-4000XCM

Lights: 160x180s (8h)

Calibration: 7 sky flats, 36 darks

Guide scope: Orion 9x50 finder scope

Guide camera: Meade DSI I (2s intervals)

Other details: Images acquired with CCDOPS v5, guided with PHD (using GPUSB), calibrated and stacked using Deep Sky Stacker, post-processed in Photoshop CS5.
