Description

We made the 50 mile trek to the Madras airport from our house in Bend to watch the eclipse. I'm not a solar imager but at the last minute I decided to try to shoot some images with a Vixen VMC 95L (that I use for guiding my C14 Edge with a Hyperstar adapter) coupled to a modified Canon 6D. I made filter mount that could be quickly removed for totality and that worked pretty well. The worst part of my last-minute plan was to use a "heavy-duty" tripod to mount the whole thing. It was wobbly and difficult to point but workable--with care. I shot a lot of images of the moon as it covered the sun and quickly reset the exposure when totality happened. I wanted to try for some HDR shots by varying the exposure setting; however, I was afraid of moving the scope if I fooled with the camera too much so I just went with a single setting. The sky conditions were high, thin Cirrus clouds with light haze in smoke. This image is a stack of 8 subs stretched and processed to show some of the detail in the corona. The exposure was 1/160 sec at ISO 640. I think that my solar imaging skills are pretty limited so C&C is certainly welcome.
