Description

In the constellation of Sagittarius we find this splendid part of the sky with the Lagoon and the Trifid nebulae being the king and queen of this dusty kingdom in our own Milky Way.

Located about 5,000 light years away from us, both nebulas are giant hydrogen II regions where tens of new stars are forming. In this real color image we can see the active star-forming regions as well as the high density of stars that populate this part of the summer night sky.

The dimension of the Lagoon Nebula, to the left of the image, is about 50 x 110 light years, a colossal dimension. Hundreds of Solar Systems could fit inside the whole region.

Despite being quite low on the southern horizon, I have been able to capture some hours of images during the nights of 21st and 22nd of August 2017 from my observatory in Prades (Catalonia).
