Description

I was looking at some of my older image folders today and I found an image of M1 that was

taken in late 2014 or maybe January of 2015. I did some processing today on the image to try and clean up the background and star field. I did not do any processing on the nebulosity today. It is just as it was

when I originally processed it. Back then I only had a basic understanding of processing.

Usually I would just stretch the data in the tiff file using curves. I would then use a tool in

PhotoScape to eliminate as much noise as I could. I would then do an automatic color

enhancement. After that if needed I would adjust the luminance. My point to all of this is

I did not knowingly manipulate the image with processing to make it look like this. I've imaged

M1 six or seven times and none of the images look like this. They have a similar shape but

don't have the same detail. I've only seen one image of M1 that resembles my image and it

was in a book entitled The Stargazer's Handbook by Giles Sparrow. The image in the book

does not have the same color configuration as my image but the characteristics of the shape

and detail are very similar. I would love to go back and completely reprocess this image.

However back then I was doing my processing on an older lap top and did not have a lot

of storage space so periodically I would purge my folders of raw files. I figured once I had an

image the files used to produce the image were no longer necessary. So I don't have the

data that I used to process this image any longer. Anyway I do tend to get wordy don't I?

With all of that said please enjoy an image I originally processed a couple of years ago and

did a little reprocessing on the image today.
