Description

My third attempt on the Great Nebula in Orion, taken during a night of better seeing (in the middle of a high pressure weather system). Besides better seeing, I have stacked more images to improve on the signal-to-noise ratio, and have processed differently to further enhance the wispy shreds of nebulosity that extend further. The core of the nebula is still blown out (exposure-wise) due to the light of the trapezium stars that are embedded and lost in the core white area.

The brightest star in the image is Nair Al Saif, a white primary binary star with a luminosity 14,000 times the luminosity of the sun. Nair Al Saif is also a "run-a-way" star, kicked out of the trapezium cluster by a close encounter with another pair of binary stars around 2.5 million years ago.
