Description

Toward the eastern edge of the moon lies a chain of four rather large craters running north to south. In this view the terminator is running right down the line, creating long shadows and the appearance of deep relief. This isn't an optical illusion. Some of these crater walls and features are kilometers high above the floor. This chain is sometimes referred to as the Great Meridional Chain because of it's N/S orientation. The craters are (from N to S) Langrenus, Vendelinus, Petavius, and Furnerius. Each has an interesting landscape worth looking into. The Sea of Fertility can be seen stretching from the top of the frame down along the edge of these craters.

This image was taken two months ago. In my perpetual quest to compress and archive AP data, I came across this video taken in July that I completely overlooked.

Enjoy!
