Description

The Shark Nebula, LDN1235, is a dark nebula in the constellation Cepheus. It is quite close as it lies some 650 light years away. It's entirely composed of interstellar gas and dust and is only visible by the light of the surrounding and background stars. The shape of dust clouds like this is formed by the light and stellar winds of nearby massive stars. It predominantly has a brown cast, but there are regions of blue owing to the scattered light of the nearby stars, forming a reflection nebula.
