Description

Here is an image comprising 6 separate frames, stitched together to form a wide field view of the Elephant Trunk and surrounding nebulosity. It has been an ongoing project for about three weeks, the data being gathered on three different nights, totaling nearly fourteen hours of exposure time. The composition is of two filters, hA and Oiii, but melded into a single monotone layer for increased detail and contrast. Many hours were spent in processing the data, and balancing the background for the smooth uniform appearance now shown. This is, by far, the most complex accomplishment I have undertaken thus far. I hope you enjoy.
Clear Skies,
Derek
