Description

I decided before I went outside tonight that I would try and image M76. I've imaged this object

5 times, the last time was about 2 years ago. I've never gotten a decent image of this object

and I guess that is because of it's very small size and my lack of ability. It's always been a

difficult target for me. I decided it would be best if I brought my mount and scope outside

first to search for M76 before I hauled all of the rest of my gear outside. Sometimes I can locate

this object and sometimes I can't. It depends on the sky. I found M76 my first look through

the eyepiece and to me that indicated that I would have a decent sky at least. Most of the time

my images of this object look basically like the object looks in an eyepiece except for the color.

However as I was imaging M76 I could distinctly make out the "ears" along with the dumbbell

shape and a little color in my raw images. I really thought I was going to get a better image.

However I've processed and reprocessed this image at least 25 times and this seems to be

the best I can do. If you squint your eyes you can tell it is M76 but it does not even remotely

compare to some of the awe inspiring images I've seen on Astrobin. However it is my

image and interpretation of this object. With that said please enjoy my latest image of M76.
