M31 The Andromeda Galaxy

Good morning my fellow Lensfriends!

Perfect nights for imaging are getting few and far between these days with all the crazy weather patterns all over it seems. Just a few days ago we had thunder, lighting, hail and very close to us funnel clouds and tornadoes right offshore. For this area and time of year these are crazy conditions!

The silver lining to all this was after the storms blew through it was absolutely stellar sky conditions up there. These kind of nights here make imaging with a modded DSLR really enjoyable. Sensor temps where right around 50f. Just where I like them. The colors captured here with my modded T5i using a custom WB I set with noon sun and a grey card are more like other imagers pictures I've admired over the years on the net but could never really come close to even using a more expensive and stock Canon full frame. Thanks much to Hutech in California for such wonderful work on my camera. I highly recommend their services.

Auto guiding in such clear conditions is also a joy and enabled me to get 10 minute exposures with nice rounds stars without a single bad exposure in the bunch out of 20. Love it when things come together and just work especially after a Windows update...whew!

This is with my Stellarvue SV80ED doublet @ 560mm using an AT2FF. 20-600 second lights @ ISO 800, 25 darks and 25 bias frames. No flats or dark flats needed at all (gotta love that). Everything was then stacked in DSS using Median and Mosaic method and given an initial edit in DSS before saving to a Tiff. Then onto PS for a slight stretching and finally LR for a small tweeking. Let me know your thoughts on the final outcome here.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
