Description

The North America Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. Its shape resemble the continent of North America, including the Gulf of Mexico. It is a large nebula, and together with its neighbor the Pelican Nebula, they make up a large interstellar cloud of ionized hydrogen. It is unknown how far away the complex is, but if the ionizing star is Deneb, as some speculate, then it is 1800 light years away and spans 100 light years across.
