Description

Redone again almost exactly a year on, but this time with the Atik 383L+ and the Skywatcher 80ED to show the whole galaxy. This is also the first test of the new 2" filters and filter wheel.

M33 is a spiral galaxy approximately 3Mly from Earth and is part of our local group of galaxies. It is believed that it is a satellite galaxy of M31 (the Andromeda Galaxy) due to their gravitational interactions. NGC604 and NGC595 are large H II regions in the galaxy and are highly active. NGC604 is approximately 1500 light years across, over 40 times larger than the Orion Nebula and over 6300 times more luminous.
