Description

Mu Cephei (Herschel's Garnet Star) is a bright red-orange supergiant star in the constellation Cepheus. This garnet red star is one of the largest stars discovered to date. It lies beside IC 1396 (Elephant's Trunk Nebula), an emission nebula with dark clouds and hydrogen gas that is home to a rich star forming region.
