Description

This edge-on spiral galaxy with an apparent magnitude of 10.8 is thought to resemble our own Milky Way (if we look at it edge-on). The image is compromised in a couple of respects: The artifact on the right is due to a reflection caused by the flat field lens on back of the EdgeHD. I was being lazy and didn't have the right distance between that lens and the camera's sensor (146 mm) and I just inserted a 1.25" t-threaded nosepiece into the 1.25" diagonal adapter since I didn't want to screw/unscrew my camera. The reflection is barely perceptible when the data was being collected and only showed up when I stretched the image. Also, not having a microfocusser made it hard to achieve precise focus. Nonetheless, I think it turned out okay with some detail in the dust lanes.
