Description

I recently got a new scope - an AT10RC truss and got some time with it last night. I think there’s still some astigmatism since the stars are not perfectly round. Hoping to refine it with the laser collimator once I get an attachment I need in the mail. I chose this scope since it’s a higher resolution imaging scope, but not as crazy as my 11” SCT (2800mm focal length), which is good for visual, planets and planetary nebulae. Anyway, with a reducer, I got this scope to 1333mm according to a plate solve, giving me a scale of 0.57 on my QSI690, which was around my goal for high res work with the QSI. That also puts me at f/5.2, which is fine by me!

Since I tinkered w/ collimation most of the beginning of the night, I didn’t get as much time with this one as I wanted, but it definitely qualifies as a first light image. It’s a bicolor (HOO) image of IC410 - that Tadpole Nebula. You can still see some star shapes not perfectly round, which I think was a mixture of collimation and bad seeing.
