Description

After 4 years of deep sky imaging with the 8” EdgeHD, I really felt like I wanted to change things up at least a little bit. I seem to have a propensity for frugal choices and this “little” scope’s sale price was hard for me to pass up. I’m hoping this 600mm focal length gives me a decent medium-wide option.

So, here we have a first light image with a new scope. The other gear used was the oldest equipment I own! It is really enlightening to return to old equipment once you have more experience. So many of those past struggles were self-inflicted.

This was shot unguided and with just about the most simple AP setup imaginable. After collimating and aligning the mirrors, this was really a test run to see how an integration would look.

I recognize a little problem with tilt or sag in the image train but I have some ideas about what I can do. Edit: I’m now of the opinion that I may have a little tilt but my coma is not being fully corrected. In all honestly, considering the price point of the scope, I’m impressed and think it will get some decent use.

I also forgot how much I love the natural color a DSLR/OSC sensor provides to deep sky objects.
