Mono-Rig Set-Up FSQ106/Atik 16200

Description

Mounted on an EQ8Pro, the Takahashi FSQ106 EDX IV is connected to an Atik 16200 and uses a Lodestar via an Atik OAG EFW3. I use a Robofocus to automate the focusing.  I have recently added a HiTechAstro Mount Hub Pro, which has greatly simplified the wiring and was a doddle to set-up. However, I decided in addition the MHP USB cable to keep the 16200 and EQMoD cables separate, there is also dedicated power to the Mount at 13.8v and 12v via the MHP for everything else.

Luckily I had 2 heavy duty Losmandy saddles spare, which when bolted together make a tidy counter-balance to off-set the weight of the camera/EFW etc.  I was also able to find a heavy duty 300mm vixen dovetail to which I have added Velcro to attach the MHP (supported by a couple of cable ties).  This approach makes it easier to fine tune the balance of the scope.  Only one mount counter balance weight is needed.  I think I have the mount running well now with indicated guide RMS errors in Maxim DL being in the mid-hundredths of a pixel based on 6-second exposures throughout 20 minute individual exposures via the 16200.

The ST4 cable for the Lodestar and cable to the Robofocus Motor are waaaaay too long but folded and cable tied to the scope they are not causing any issues, other than together they make things look less tidy.

Thanks for looking, ATB Jim
