Description

Hi all.

This is the time for an exotic object.

This one was discovered only 23 years ago, in 1994.

Is a nearby barred spiral galaxy, a mere 10 million light years apart, that lies just on the plane of our galaxy, heavily obscured by the dust clouds of the Milky Way itself.

It belongs to the Maffei group, formed by IC342, Maffei I and II, Dwingeloo 1 and 2 and a few other satellites of the main galaxies.

It's a tough target actually, and I shot it using an infrared filter (Schuler Ic), just like the Maffei II picture posted some days ago.

The galaxy is the S shaped nebulosity in the upper left part of the picture.

In the lower right corner is visible MB3, a dwarf spheroidal galaxy, companion of Dwingeloo 1.

Hope you like it as I do!

Ciao.

Lorenzo
