Description

Subject: Sh2-157, an emission nebula in Cassiopeia, approximately 11050 light-years distant. The (northern) ring-shaped area is formed by stellar winds from several prominent stars. The bulbous southern area is excited by O-class stars.

Capture notes: Hoowee. This was not easy, but mostly due to human error. My first night of Ha had to be thrown out when I discovered the target was well off-center. When the weather finally cleared, I had to throw out another 90 minutes of O-iii because the nebula slipped below the roofline of our house. The Ha was captured on the last night this year that I could have possibly captured it, due to our reversion to standard time and the encroaching weather. It was tight, but it turned out well in the end.

Processing: Tonemapping of the Ha and O-iii stacks, luminance from the Ha stack with the O-iii tone map added in. Palette is basically HOO, but green has a little bit (20%) of Ha in the mix.
