Description

NGC 891 in monochrome. My first image of the season. A simple trial test of re-assembled observatory instruments. My observatory (and house), but you know which one really mattered, was hit directly by Hurricane Irma in early September. Another notch on the Hurricane totem pole for the house. This time, we could not have been hit more dead center. The center of the eye wall went over our location. The house exterior, and roof was somewhat trashed, but the observatory was in the wind shadow of the house, and emerged with a slightly dented tin roof. No equipment was inside, but non the less, I was thrilled it made it through the storm intact. We weathered sustained 120 mph - 140 mph winds for a long time. About 40% of the trees in the area survived, so the view is now 60% better! This is especially of the southern skies, where I will direct the scope next.
