Description

This is a luminance image of M101 taken with my ES127 + 0.7x FR and QSI683wsg-8 last summer. I had lots of trouble then with reflections. They were so bad that I had not intended on doing anything with the frames. However, I've taken another look several months later and worked hard to remove as much of the background reflections as possible. You will note there is a reflection ring in the lower left corner. I could crop that out, but I wanted to retain as much of the FOV as possible to show M101 in its relative isolation.

Revision C is a mosaic of annotated images made using PixInsight's AnnotateImage script and then assembled using the InsertImage script. I also used the Annotation process to add some labels. The mosaic shows the location of many galaxies from the SDSS with magnitude and redshift values. I am impressed that galaxies down to magnitude 19.5 are actually visible as little point-like blotches. I would have assumed that these were just stars, but in actuality the ccd picked them up from my red zone suburban backyard.

Description: Annotated L Image
This is a mosaic showing galaxies from the SDSS down to magnitude 20. Remarkably, galaxies down to about 19.5 are actually visible in this image, but I would have otherwise assumed they were faint stars. (Note that AB made a false plate solve of this mosaic and oddly placed it near Leo!)
